There is, she thinks, something despairing about falling in love with the crown prince of Camelot, and Gwen would have never considered herself the kind to do something so unreasonable. Except, she knows, there's nothing reasonable about love, so why not aim high.

That they can't ever be together, she knows. It hurts, a piercing ache in her chest, something that tightens her throat at times, that makes her blink twice as fast to keep tight reign of her tears, of her heart.

It changes nothing. She wouldn't change this bittersweet knowledge if she could. So she will love Arthur, love him the way she knows he loves her, something similar in the way he looks at her in the way he talks and sees and cares and loves loves for Albion and Camelot, so love him she will, and she will stand by his side in whatever way she might, and help him protect this land that is their home.
