after spending time in the area, i have this bug in my brain that makes me want to further pursue getting my phd at nyu. i could only go part time, but the idea of it is pretty exciting, especially now that they have a clinical based program in addition to the full research based program. this of course wouldn't be a reality for at least another

I hope you go for the PhD, if that's what you want. I wish I'd started down that path in my early 30s, after I'd finished my second master's, instead of waiting until my early 40s.

I was too entrenched in my career and other life realities by the time I started and making far too good of an income to be able to take a major hit to go the professor route, starting at the bottom as an assistant professor. I was a PhD dropout after a couple of years which included a large chunk of my coursework and my residency requirements (through spending a couple of summers at Indiana University).

If you can pull off going part time and if your employer will help pick up the cost, it really seems like something worth seriously considering.
