The little AU: Winter Work: Rest

Orli comes in the door, drops his bags, runs his hand through his short/messy/not-quite-curly hair, and plops down on the big leather sofa in a pile of dogs happy to see him. He grunts a little as he shifts and shifts again, trying to find the place the sofa's most comfortable for him. He takes the cuppa that Karl wordlessly offers to him with a smile, then shifts again, this time sighing happily, as he leans up against Karl's shoulder when he settles in beside Orli.

"Never enough time here, is there," Orli says. "Bit bigger than I knew, the world is." He sips the tea gratefully, stretching his legs out for what feels like the first time in a month.

"Big indeed. Too big, I reckon, a lot of the time," Karl replies, thinking that he won't bring up how lonely he gets when they're all off working, even though he likes to be busy as much as any of them.

"I miss him too, you know. I missed you, love," Orlando says, putting down the cup and turning to face Karl full on. "Missed you down there at the bottom of the world, thought about how if you'd been there, in Wellington, I could have come by and picked you up. But you were here, keeping the home fires burning, and I love you for it. I really do." He leans in and kisses Karl gently on the lips, not at all surprised when the kiss threatens to deepen right then and there.

Karl pulls back though, looks away.

"You all right?" Orli looks at him, puts one hand on Karl's cheek. He knows not to push, now, not to press- Karl will tell him in his own good time.

"Better now you're home, I reckon," he says, kissing Orli's palm. They sit together, cuddled up and sprawled out in that way rangy men can be, dogs piled around them, and drink, each appreciating the other's presence here in the house at the end of the bluff road.
