I admit to letting Dahlia off leash in places where I'm not supposed to when no one is around. She sticks to the trail and is under my control. If someone's coming I leash her up.
I'm really sad to see all the rules against dogs. It just means less people will bring them out and socialize them and we'll have more out of control dogs.
I get sad when there are parks where dogs are not allowed off leads. In Hastings (town i stayed in lots this summer) there were many places where dogs were not allowed off leads between 9a.m. and 6p.m., because so many people there have dogs they teach to be fierce and unfriendly, which is very sad.
But I do understand it in picnic areas. Sausage goes up to strangers having picnics and sits under their chins sniffing their sandwiches as they eat. It is funny, but I have to hide and pretend he is not mine when that happens. Usually they love it, though, because he is so sweet.
