"Someone in the 7th grade just doesn't gather this information by themselves," he said. "I was concerned where that came from."

*headdesk*

I was a very politics-savvy seventh grader :-P

Yea...but, that's because you're family is a bunch of hippies.

Oh good LORD.

No wonder kids are becoming increasingly ignorant, these days.

O.o maybe because I'm British, I just don't understand the excessive censorship that goes on in the conservative parts of the US - are these people convinced that their faith and morals are so weak and tenuous that their children will be converted to satanism if they so much as get a whiff of anything vaguely controversial? What happened to the value of communication and openness, of rational teaching, and of actual education as opposed to the ignorance and rigid dogma that's controlling the development of these kids' minds? I do wish people would stop being so ridiculous...and they say Britain is turning into a nanny state...

Um, maybe the parents should actually watch the whole thing and see that the moral of the story is ANTI-Devil, and that Marguerite ascends to Heaven at the end after repenting of her sins. Fucking morons.

Seriously, this is an opera classic! How much can we shelter our kids until they just become *ignorant* of cultures?

First, second, and third graders are totally too young for that opera. Though, it depends on the staging. I mean, Wishbone (popular kids' show) did a little thing based on that opera, including the selling the soul to the devil part (but yeah, it did have a dog as the main character...:P)

That being said, I saw that opera when I was nine years old (actually...not even) and I was fine. Though, my parents are weird like that (they would let me see an opera where a woman would stab herself and not let me watch Spiderman). Plus, I was capable of reading the book of Faust itself when I was six years old. (Notice I said *READ*, not necessarily understand ;))

Anyway.....
