Fic Recs: Harry Potter

Jan 14, 2015 22:11

I didn't do any recs last year, part of the reason was just time constrains and the fact that I haven't been reading as much fanfic as I used to. But I do want to start doing recs again. I will try to do at least 3 per month, a lot of the fics will be things I found last year, so they're not particularly fresh in most cases, but it's easy to miss ( Read more... )

Thank you so much for the lovely recs for Mercy and Spoken For!

Thanks also for the others - I especially loved Be Here Now (wow!) and A Slytherin's Guide to Hugging Professor Snape.

:) "Mercy" really gave me a lot to think about. Your Roddy is not my Roddy, so to speak, but I loved the characterization.

Thank you! I have such a soft spot for Rod. I just keep thinking about what he sacrificed, and his loyalty and devotion, and all of that - greater than anyone else along with Bella. And unlike Bella, he wasn't (presumably) motivated by romantic love. I think, if he'd been born into a different time and place and a different cultural construct, he could have been a really wonderful and good person. (I also think that about Bella - she's utterly honest and single-minded and not afraid of self-sacrifice - who would she have been if her father, and every single man she could have married hadn't been a Death Eater?)

I don't know if I'd say that Rodolphus' sacrifice/loyalty/devotion was greater than that of other DEs, canon-wise*. But it's hard to really make canon-based arguments about most of the Death Eaters since we know so little about them from canon, and lots of what we do know if given to us by very biased parties.

*unless you're going off of Pottermore/interview canon information; I'm pretty bad at keeping up with that stuff.

Wow, um. I'll blame the fact that I haven't been on LJ in months for seeing this so late. Thank you so much, its really nice to see other people interested in the less 'mainstream' characters/plots, most aren't, which is an absolute shame, as I think you'd agree :D I'm definitely plunging right into reading every fic on this reclist now.

Rare ships and minor characters are totally my jam :) Especially in HP. It's always exciting to find great writers who like these more niche characters/ships :D
