Title: Giving off Sparks (1/1)
Pairing: Puck/Kurt (beginning of, anyway)
Rating: PG
Fandom: Glee
Summary: Puck and Kurt continue their discussion about Poison.
Disclaimer: Very much not mine, sadly.
Notes: This has become a little series, I think. The first was A Funny Thing Happened on the Way Home. The song this is based on is Every Rose Has Its Thorn. The song that Kurt has the music to is Total Eclipse of the Heart, which I think would be pretty epic sung by the glee club. The other song mentioned is Never Say Goodbye by Bon Jovi.

"So."

Kurt looked up, under his lashes. Puck was standing there by his chair. It was a few days after the CD exchange, and Kurt had gone home and listened to the Poison CD about fourteen times, trying his hardest to like the songs. He liked the bass beat to "Unskinny Bop" but then the guitar started and turned him completely off.

Kurt thought part of his aversion to Poison could be the fact that he had been strangely addicted to the train wreck that was Rock of Love and he had zilch respect for Bret Michaels. He would never tell anyone that tidbit though; he was far, far too good for trashy reality television.

Shifting in the uncomfortable plastic chair, Kurt waved his music to "Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler at Puck. It was a new song Mr. Shue had dug up; the kids had voted on trying that to see if they could make it work. "So what?" Kurt asked curiously.

"What do you think of the CD?" He dragged another plastic chair over in front of Kurt, straddling it. Again, Kurt looked away as not to notice the way Puck's arms looked, folded on top of the back of the chair.

Shaking his head, Kurt smiled faintly. "I'm not surprised at all that you like it. I, however, am still not a fan."

"Not a fan?" Kurt thought he actually saw Puck's face fall slightly. "How can you not like Poison? Seriously, one of the best bands out of the 80s. How can you not be rocked by Rose?"

It took Kurt a moment to figure out what Puck meant by Rose. "You mean 'Every Rose Has Its Thorn'? Puck, honestly."

"What? That's one of the biggest power ballads out of the 80s." Kurt knew that was true, the internet told him so. Plus, all the girls on Rock of Love seemed to swoon when Bret serenaded them with it. Kurt thought it was just a tacky way to get into their pants.

Turning his nose up slightly, Kurt shook his head. "Honestly, Puck. Have you really listened to the song?" One thing Kurt had a special talent in was remembering the lyrics to a song after a few listens. He started singing softly. "I know I could have saved a love that night, if I'd known what to say. Instead of makin' love, we both made our separate ways." He gave Puck a 'get real' look. "Clearly," and Kurt was being severely condescending at this point, "there were far more problems in the relationship than the fact that he didn't know the right thing to say that night."

Puck rolled his eyes. "Whatever, man. It's a great song. They all are. I listened to your Cabaret. Really..." He made a face. "I'm not a show tunes guy. At all. Though the Cabaret song wasn't as bad as the rest of it."

Kurt was pleasantly surprised that Puck actually listened to it. He still wasn't sure that Puck would. "Well," and his voice was uncharacteristically soft toward the jock, "you gave it a try. That's all that matters."

That caused Puck to smile and Kurt had to look away again. Fortunately, Mr. Shue had walked in at that precise moment, clapping his hands. "Rachel!" the teacher said, his full attention on the glee club star.

"I suggest 'Never Say Goodbye,'" Kurt whispered to Puck.

Puck had stood, turning his chair so it was next to Kurt instead of in front of him. "Hm?" he questioned, looking at Kurt.

"As an incredible power ballad. 'Never Say Goodbye' by Bon Jovi. I do like that a lot."

Watching as Puck's eyes glazed a bit, Kurt wondered if Puck was trying to place the song in his head. His fingers twitched slightly, and Kurt thought maybe Puck was mentally playing out the song on his guitar. For some reason Kurt couldn't figure out, that made his stomach twist the slightest bit. Puck hummed slightly, then nodded. "Good song, Hummel. I'm impressed." His smile turned into a smirk. "If only because they talk about fucking in the backseat."

Kurt flushed at both the fact that Puck picked that one line out of the song (remember when we lost the keys and you lost more than that in my backseat, baby) and that Puck actually said the word "fuck" with that smirk that Kurt always only saw directed toward one of the cheerleaders. He opened his mouth to speak, when Mr. Shue clapped his hands again. "Okay, guys!" he said. "Let's talk about this song!"

Turning his attention to the teacher, Kurt was thankful for the save. However, yet again, he didn't notice Puck in his personal space until the felt the warmth of another body at his side. "Save it for later, Hummel," Puck purred in his ear.

Kurt flushed again. There was no way he was going to make it through practice now, not without thinking of Puck in the backseat of a car.

Great. How absolutely perfect.

.end.
