Good day. Did the counts for the tense switching work. Will finish it on Wednesday, present on Thursday and will also ask what to do next. And I just got up to our 6th floor by foot, since the elevator seems to have finally broken ( Read more... )

this was very interesting to read! (i wish i'd even attempted Faust at that young age. applause for your bravery! :)

and i like how you wrote about atheism in the former USSR, and about God and your thoughts on reality-vs-theory. (and you're right, goodness knows we have a lot of scientists today that should do as Freud did!) we need more of you rational, realistic, level-headed types in this world for sure. :)

Thank you! ♥

wish i'd even attempted Faust at that young age.

Is "Faust" translated to Phillipinnean languages too? Because it is translated to Russian, so I didn't have to struggle with a foreign language :D Btw, if you have "Master and Margarita", at least in English I strongly recommend it. It very readable, very interesting, very fun, deals with phylosophical, humanistic and love issues.

Btw, my dear, I still owe you a reading. But: if you are still interested, do you have an MSN, perhaps? It's just it takes me forever to put everything on paper and organize it into smth readable. On-line would be much easier, since it would be some imitation of a fluent conversation.

oh, i didn't think you owed me anything! i'm sure it would be me instead who owes you for all the lovely things you've been sharing with me. :) i don't use MSN though, sorry. i procrastinate enough on the internet as it is. ;) but you really don't have to put yourself to such trouble. you are really too nice. :)

Awwwww.....:D Well, since YOU are so nice, I'm sending you another piece of smth I hope you'll find interesting.

Heh, I actually started using MSN because this is a convenient way to discuss your work. And also, rvade is many times available (he is my only RL friend and the one that got me on LJ :D ) .

Faust is boring, I am not sure if I was able to finish it when *I* was 10... maybe, I was so tenacious I even finished Karamazov Brothers (to my excuse, I confused it with Strugatsky Brothers). Master and Margarita, on the other hand, kicks ass and can be read by people of any age. Still, when I was 10 my favourites were Jules Verne and Dumas (and unhealthy dose of sci-fi I could get my sweaty palms upon). As for ancient civilizations, I’m not so hot on Aztecs, but the Incas kicked major ass and were probably one of the most enlightened civilizations of those times. Damn those conquistadores! Damn them! P)

The opera is beautiful though :D And "Faust" was one of Bulgakov's favorite stories/operas. I read that he based Voland somewhat on Mephistopheles. But yes, the book is heavy. The opening is beautiful though.

Never read it :D

There are some of their works that I like very much (like "Monday begins on Saturday", "The land of scarlet clouds", "It's hard to be God"), but there are their other works that I just couldn't grasp. But again, I read them at my early teenage yers, perhaps now I would have grasped them. Btw, I heard that one of them died, but another still writes.

Btw, what do you think of Stanislav Lem? His "The Invincible" used to literally give me nightmares.

Master and Margarita, on the other hand, kicks ass and can be read by people of any age.Yes, it is totally readable and interesting and cool at any age! Of course, when I was 10 ( ... )

Lem? Yeah, Lem's cool. He's funny. I remember reaading a really cool series of stories about moon missions by Lem where a guy had his sides of brain controlling him individually and I thought it was Ion Tychy but apparently it's not so now I'm confused.

It was not Ion Tichiy? I was sure till this moment that it was him.

Yes, these stories are funny. Especially the moments when he tries to control his left? hand. lol.
