[he was walking to the orphanage, and because he doesn't experience the Dark Hour, he obviously didn't see anything. It happens in a second: where no one seemed to be just earlier, now Fuuta is standing. He blinks for a while, and when he realizes he's not actually seeing things, he approaches him.]
