Sweet Seventeen

You turned seventeen months old today. In the last thirty days, your growth has been subtly overwhelming. There were no first steps, no first words, no spontaneous ability to quote Shakespeare or read Cao Xueqin's Dream of the Red Chamber. Yet you ran where you had walked, used new words every day, and have set about memorizing your board books ( Read more... )

She is very lucky to have a father who can capture his feelings about raising a remarkable child and being a first time parent so well. This is particularly special I think, given our culture, which does not always allow parents to express themselves freely.

I can't imagine how beautiful it will be for her to be able to read what her daddy wrote about her.

Very heartwarming; my coworkers are probably wondering why I've got this stupid smile on my face right now.

A very ordered individual huh? This could make for a very interesting individual. She may end up like my sister and I though: highly ordered and organized for specific things (my mom was very ordered and neat) but then slovenly for everything else (a habit we picked up from our father).

You know, you ought to start teaching her your native dialect too as she gets older. Yeah, it's not proper guo yu, but it certainly would add flavor to her language down the road.

I wish I could see your daughter doing the "uh oh" for the junk mail. Sounds like a rediculously cute scene.

tell them you've just hit on how to achieve world peace. and that they need to pony up $50 each to make it happen.

if total chaos is immaculate order, then she's the One.

yeah, i've thought about that, but she's showing a certain preference for english as it is, and so i'd rather she learn mandarin, first. the others can follow.

she says 'uh oh' a lot. a lot a lot. =)
