Am I the crazy one?

Wow, The Crazy Ones. Unfunny and no characters of color, token or otherwise? Hm. IMDB also says it's supposed to be from the POV of the charming, smarmy good-looking white guy Zach. Even worse ( Read more... )

There's nothing that bugs me more than a show telling me what to feel in an episode, then assuming I'm feeling that way, then rubbing it in. It seems to be a theme going around lately.

I'm glad it's not just me. After watching a couple of British mini-series that literally left me not knowing WHAT to think, but with so much to think ABOUT, I have started questioning this need for US Network TV to always, always be so formulaic. (Loving Community for poking fun of that!) And if they do the big music swell during the "meaningful" moments, UGH I get really mad.

Aw, I still love the US Network shows I watch. They're still better than 80% of the non-cable network shows, as far as I'm concerned.

Sleepy Hollow has not grabbed me, and this is causing me much distress. I hate being on the "ick" side of a show everyone loves! But I see in your comments that the second episode was better, so I will watch that tonight and hope.

The Crazy Ones would be better if a) it had a live studio audience and b) exponentially less Robin Williams. I think the cast needs live people to bounce off of, get energy from, but I fear that if they ever did that, Robin would be completely out of control.

I liked The Michael J Fox Show, and I'm not generally a sitcom watcher. (I'm still mourning the loss of Friends, if that tells you anything.) Sunday gives me the return of The Mentalist, and I've got the second season premiere of Elementary on my DVR. Whoo! \o/

When you say non-cable network shows - you mean... in Canada?

I wouldn't worry about Sleepy Hollow not being your fave thing ever. There is a lot of crazy about it now but it's really not that great a show. I think everyone is ready for a new fannish obsession. The UP side of this is the "SGA effect" where a marginally silly but imaginative show was a catalyst for a lot of great fannish content making it the greatest thing ever.

Ugh, The Crazy Ones! So bad. You're right about a live audience. It felt super-scripted and hollow. And over-much Robin Williams. Who needs to be a character and not just Robin Williams. I predict cancellation imminently.

I'm not a sitcom watcher either. Except for Community which is sort of the anti-sitcom sitcom. But I've heard the MJFOX thing is great, and how could it not be? Also Britcoms... because some of them really are so funny.

That was unclear, wasn't it? :D I meant ABC, NBC, CBS.

Maybe I'll wait until the fandom awesome kicks in. I'm dying to see who the shippers are going to smush together. No big pairing usually equals lots of love but not a lot of fannish output. Genfic is apparently dead these days, woe, and I didn't see a major pairing potential in the one and a half episodes I saw. Granted - one and a half episodes, haha.

SMG lost me mid-way through Ringer but I want to see her have good work to do. THIS is not it. She was really stiff. And the cast is awful and an ad firm? It felt like a giant commercial for McDonald's and Kelly Clarkson.

I saw maybe 5 minutes of The Crazy Ones and it looked like someone took the idea of Mad Men and then made it TERRIBLE. Ew.

Am liking S.H.I.E.L.D. (though my god, that's a lot of white people), Elementary (gender politics done right! mocking the concept of the hardened, edgy, rule-breaking cop genre!), Person of Interest (especially now that Amy Acker and Sarah Shahi are regulars, eeeee happy dance), and - totally despite myself - Sleepy Hollow which is BATSHIT and adorable.

It sounds like you need non-American teevee, though.

Someone took SOMETHING and made it terrible, that's for sure. It was really horrible.

SHIELD of course. I always just take that one for granted, because really, who's not watching it? I don't know a single person in fandom who won't be watching the whole thing. Just... J. August Richards needs to be our Everyman regular. What the ever-loving FUCK? I can't believe Joss is giving us Bland White Guy as a lynchpin. Maybe he'll die. And we'll get more Book.

POI for sure. Adding my best girlfriends in is the best thing ever. I'm not sold on Sleepy Hollow except that I think it may produce good fannish content and I'm all over that.

I have been watching a lot of Brit shows, and want MORE. Because I'm lazy and greedy, for fuck's sake.

I will say this about Person of Interest. I have never EVER been a fan of Amy Acker, but man - she kicks ass on that show. I didn't even recognize her.

I suspect JAR will be back in SHIELD; he's too good to waste, and they didn't kill him off, so it's possible!
