I spent the afternoon exploring the University Park neighborhood with mom, looking at properties, just for fun really. Very cute neighborhood, and lots of properties with potential. The question is, do I want potential and hard work and a 100ish year old house with charm and character and neighborhood diversity or do I want a new condo where ( Read more... )

I lean that way at this time in my life, but man do I want a cute little cottage with built-ins and leaded glass and shiny hardwood floors...

Oh, believe me, I hear that. I tell myself I can have that right after I acquire an independently wealthy spouse who's also a general contractor.

I, too, vote for new condo. I like the IDEA of something older, with character, etc, but I am LAZY.

It's that laziness (and serious budgetary issues) I worry about. But the lure of built in bookcases and vintage octagonal bathroom tiles is hard to resist. :)

I've lived in many charming apartments with character and nifty little details that were located in diverse neighborhoods, and I would sell my soul for a dishwasher, doors that closed, and windows that kept the heat in. :D

Ah, but if I own the charming place, I can install a dishwasher, replace the windows and rehang the doors. Easy peasy, right? Of course, shiny and new is also very appealing.
