2015 Reading list

The Scarlet Pimpernel by Emma Orczy. Entertaining adventure story which is about as close to the TV adaptations I remember as Disney's Three Musketeers is to the original, I wasn't expected it to be narrated by his wife for a start. I read all the Orczy Pimpernel books as a teenager - my father had copies of them - and I remember absolutely loving them. I now have his copies but haven't dared re-read them in case they didn't stand up to my memories of them. Maybe I should.

The foreword of the edition I have is written by Hilary Mantel and her advice is treat them as adventure romance novels and just enjoy them for being silly. If you can do that, I think they will probably stand up just fine :)
