thank you for such interesting comment and analysis and so on. i always get annoyed when people moan about how awful religion is while regarding their atheism as if it were a religion. though as every religion has its evangelistic followers and those with a more "live and let live" outlook, atheism seems to become more and more religious all the time. science seems to me to have been like that for a long time already. thank you for reminding me that i am not alone in despairing at desires to make faith and science mutually exclusive.

the absurd level of media attention to Birtney shaving her head got to me a bit as well. i read a bit about it on the BBC website that sought to investigate the difference in views towards shaven heads according to a person's gender, which was quite interesting. perhaps it's society's attempt to balance its lack of acceptance of men wearing what have been traditionally "female" clothes.

Glad you enjoyed the post. It always seems strange to me that so many people blithely accept being told that science and faith are inherantly antagonistic, given that so many of the founding fathers of science were deeply religious men.

Hmmm, that's an interesting idea - women might be able to wear mens clothes these days, but wearing their hair styles is still a step to far...
