OSCARS

...I am COMPLETELY BIASED because okay, The Departed was a good movie, but it honestly rode the back of Infernal Affairs which CREATED that plot, that scenario and those characters. I am infinitely sad that there was no recognition paid to the writers who came up with the original plotline. The ONLY award I could begrudge The Departed was adapted ( Read more... )

OMG

*brain dies*

(I haven't seen the departed, but I think I'm always going to be more partial to the original - but then again, I'm always iffy about remakes)

I spent, an EMBARRASINGLY long time doing that. Or about as long as it takes for dear Clint to get it up without his helpful pills. Nino's life is TOUGH.

Infernal Affairs. It will BLOW YOUR MIND and ROCK YOUR WORLD and then take you out to dinner with an aftershow of pretty boys at a strip club. Though the morning after is crazy.

... And that's the best way I can describe that trilogy.

The Departed is like reading a book of that experience. It still makes you go WHOA but then make you feel like a gigantic slut because you're forced to find Matt Damon and Leo Decaprio attractive when it's clear in hindsight you should've gone home with Mark Wahlberg. It's like seeing all the same characters, same story but... sober. Everything is cleaner and more succint, but also, whinier.

I know, poor, poor Nino. Don't worry, someone's ficcing you with Clint. and I'm ficcing you with Jun because I'm just mean like that

AHAHHAHAHHA, A+ description. I've always liked Matt Damon, but I'm sorry, I've adored people like Tony Leung and Andy Lau ever since I was a young kid watching them in bad eighties costumes. They really don't compare in any way.

if martin scorsese has taught us anything, it is that thirty years of cocaine addiction will eventually lead to an oscar.

I don't understand, why would you begrudge them the adapted screen play oscar? Since that's what it is... an adapted screen play. And they thanked infernal affairs in their speeches.

I think martin scorsese deserved to get the best director award. Not for the departed in particular, but he deserved just... a general one, for being consistently good, so i dont mind that he won it for departed.

The only winner i was really cranky at was Pan's Labyrinth for cinematography because there was nothing special about it. Babel beat it hands down.

... Doesn't 'begrudge' mean 'can't really argue against'? *looks it up*

Begrudge: defn. Grudge

Well. Sorry, my bad. I meant that was the ONLY oscar I can happily give to them since the succint screenplay was the only thing I can commend about The Departed. Scorsese probably deserved the best director, just because he hasn't gotten one yet, and out of the choices this year, he probably WAS the best. I just wanted Clint Eastwood to win so I can make bad pedophilia jokes about him and Nino. XD

I quite liked Pan's cinematography, but then I enjoyed that movie and wasn't overhyped about it. From what I understand of Babel (I haven't seen it) its cinematography was more due to an excellent location and natural environment rather than the created environment of PL. But I'll judge this one fresh after I've seen Babel.

AND THEY DID NOT THANK INFERNAL AFFAIRS. THEY SAID THE FILM WAS JAPANESE. WTF. NO MENTION OF ANDY LAU WHO WROTE/DIRECTED IT.

The Departed = INFERIOR AFFAIRS.
