I am looking forward to 300 because I been waiting for a good Persian Wars movie for YEARS, and I'm definitely shallow enough to enjoy the sight of David Wenham and Gerald Butler in leather undies.

So, trinityofone's preview-review of it took me by surprise. I'm not denouncing it or anything, because she makes such valid points, but I do find it interesting ( Read more... )

I hope you're right because I'd hate to write off this film yet, I just wish I didn't know anything about Frank Miller so I could enjoy the film more.

I have hope, and it's probably easy to be appeased, what with the eye candy. Frank Miller's stuff I have no problems with on the surface, it's when you try to study it, you get increasingly annoyed at the blatantly sexist themes. I can practice ignorance if the media calls for it. All to finally get my Persian Wars film. *sigh*

I'm hoping it's like that because some of his stuff, like say Dark Knight Returns, not surface at all and really sexistic and homophobic.

But it's TRUE though! They DIDN'T have time for anything else in ORDER to create a purely military society.

To get them to sleep with their WIVES, the Soldiers, once they've come out of the barracks after the 30 years service, would have their wives brought to their beds, have the room put into darkness and a rough, military issue blanket through on top of them, so they can get used to sleeping with WOMEN instead of men.

If it wasn't for the sexist and racist issues, Spartan society is the perfect society.

If it makes you feel any better... most people have been raving about it

Personally, I think people need to look past historical accuracy/poor morals/etc whatever and just concentrate on the fact that it is pretty, vapid, entertaining entertainment.
