Wow what an absolutely fascinating read, and thank you for sharing it with us! It's wonderful how different people can take the same book and *have* an entirely different experience with it iykwim, based on who they are and when and where they lived. It would be really interesting to take 1 of the authors/books you specified and see what everyone's relationship was with it... /musings
That was so interesting to read and it's making me think about the books that have had a profound effect on my life and it's amazing to see the influences that books have had on our lives - you can really see how significant it is when it's all written down like that!
You will note that there is nothing in there related to accountancy LOL!! Glad you thought it was interesting - I didn't really expect anyone else to read it!
Thank you for sharing that. You are the only person I have met who read Jane Eyre at a younger age than me. I was in the first year of senior school when I read it and made the English teacher's day in the third year when we studied it and he asked in his world weary voice, "I don't suppose any of you have actually read this?" and I put my hand up enthusiastically.
I read it at 13 in second year in school and didn't like it at all :( This was probably down to the teacher though, whose idea of a class involved her reading aloud to us in a droney voice every day for an hour! I must give it another go.
I just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to write about these books - some of them I have read and re-read hundreds of times, others I have never read (yet). I have constructed a list to take with me to the library :)
