Joe and Jason - Random Remembrances

Feb 22, 2009 00:45

Joe and Jason did their first stage talk at Chevron 7.2 this afternoon. I'll post more about the con is going at a later date but thought I would first of all jot down some random recollections of what they talked about before it all disappears into the fog of pregnancy brain! :D

Disclaimer: This is not verbatim and is from memory only and is in no kind of order, just random bits of what I remember:

They mentioned early on that they lived together in Vancouver while filming and that led to a whole series of innuendo and jokes and double entendres about them living together - mostly made by Jason and causing Joe to crack up.

They acted out the story Kavan had told at P4 about Jason mooning David Hewlett from Joe's car as David drove home after a long day on set - Joe played David driving along and Jason acted out how he mooned out the car window! Jason claimed David saw everything! "He saw what I had for dinner... he saw what I had for dinner last week!"

A question was asked about whether they could do any impressions of their fellow cast members and they both started doing pretty good impressions of Paul McGillion... going, "Thank yoooooo!" And Joe did an impression of Paul saying, "You're hurting my feelings there, Joe.." Jason's impression of David involved whining, "Me, me, me, me, me, me..." Their impression of Rachel involved tippping the head to one side to look cute and pretty and saying, "I'm so tired!" Jason did an impression of himself.. jumping and lumbering about and being loud and claimed he couldn't do an impression of Joe because he was sat beside him, telling us, "See you at the next con!" :D

They were asked about fight sequences etc in the show and whether they did any kind of martial arts/fight training and whether they practised at home etc and Jason claimed they liked to wrestle each other at home (cue more innuendo), especially when they'd just got out of the shower! Oh and would have towel fights, flicking each other with towels! Joe told a story of how Jason "accidentally" punched a hole in the wall of their hotel room and Joe didn't know at first that he'd done it because Jason put a poster over the hole... only Joe's wife came to visit... and the posted Jason had put up was a Brokeback Mountain one! And Joe kept wanting to take the poster down but couldn't because when he did there was a hole in the wall!!

Jason was asked about the fact that he had said before that he considered Joe to be like an older brother and he talked about that and was very complimentary about Joe, basically saying he is an amazing family man, and Jason goes to him for relationship advice, and he is intelligent and well-read, and if Jason doesn't know what a word means, he'll ask Joe, and that Joe knows about politics and stuff and just an all round very intelligent, very thoughtful person and Jason feels he can go to him for advice on anything and that he sees him as a big brother. :)

They were asked what it was like having action figures and Jason was all excited, punching the air, that he now has an action figure. Joe said it's very cool to have an action figure.. "it's like a whole new level of cool that just flows into your soul"! He said he likes to give them out to his friends! He said he likes to give them to friends who are real big-shots, really very successful people and just go, "Here you go. Here's my action figure." :D He said he likes to write on the box, "Open in case of emergency".

Joe mentioned that he is really good friends with Hugh Jackman but his kids just know Hugh as "Oscar's dad" and his kids have a Wolverine action figure and they have a Sheppard action figure and they have fights with the action figures, "Oscar's dad vs Truman's dad" and Joe'll be leaning over to see, going, "Who's winning? Well... my action figures a bit bigger, I think he'd be winning..." :D

They were asked about what they were working on at present and Joe answered that actually a week after they were told SGA was cancelled, he was offered something - it was a show filming in Vancouver and he thought about it and turned it down because he decided he just couldn't face doing that.. spending another possibly 7 years living away from his family in Vancouver. He said that he'd been getting a lot of interesting offers and he was in the nice position - which he'd never been in before - of waiting for the right role and that it was nice to be able to wait and choose what's right rather than having to take whatever is offered. He also said that a lot of stuff had been put on hold because of the threat of an SAG strike but that things were starting to move forward again now. Jason said he had been mostly just smashing his face into glass bottles recently(!!) and then added that he'd done a few episodes of a show called The Game.

They were asked about what characters they would like to play and Joe answered very enigmatically that he'd just today thought up a great character he would really like to play but he'd "tell you about that later" but that it was a very cool idea and Jason agreed that it was a really good character. They also later mentioned something about working on a project together... Joe was praising JHuason, saying that he did a lot more with researching and building the backstory of Ronon (ideas which the writers later incorporated) than he was given credit for and that he was very creative that way and on this idea they'd been fleshing out, Jason had been all about the character detail whereas Joe was more into creating the storylines! Sounds intruiging, eh? :D

They were asked what they thought of the last episode of SGA and Jason immediately said, "Hated it" and Joe agreed, "Yeah, I hated it too." Joe explained that he didn't like things like the city flying in to save the day and it all felt too pat and too tidy - that the writers had said that was gonna be the set-up for the movie and he said he just felt it was too tidy for that and that the last scene on the balcony was just corny etc.. he said they might as well have all been stood there having a smoke and Jason was like, "So this is Earth, huh?" Joe also wans't happy about the shippyness in that scene, complaining, "There's McKay and Keller all of a sudden, where did that come from?" and saying to Jason, "And you and..." and Jason said "Amelia. She's hot though!" And Joe complained, "And I'm out there on my own!!"

Joe said that the writers really weren't receptive at that time to his criticisms! He also did say that whilst he didn't like the episode as a set up for the movie, he has no idea what the premise of the movie is going to be so he can't really judge if the ending is a good set-up for the movie.

They were both asked what made them want to get into acting and Jason replied, "The money and the women!" Joe thought about it and said he'd have to say it was the other way around, "the women, and the money".

Joe talked about how Jason was usually on time to set but one time he turned up late, after a heavy night out the night before, and Paul (Mullie), who was producing the ep, called Joe into the office and kinda said to him, "I'd really appreciate it if you wouldn't keep Jason out drinking till 4am the night before we're shooting" and Joe said he was kinda flattered that anyone thought he could corrupt Jason! So he just went with it and sorta aaid, "Well, you know, these young guys, they just can't keep up!" when in fact Joe hadn't even known Jason had been out that late! He hadn't even heard him come in! Joe said he had really good earplugs and Jason agreed and said he'd be like, "We didn't wake you last night? I had 10 people in the living room jamming!" and Joe'd be like, "Nope!"

They were asked if they had ever given in to the temptation to google themselves and Joe said that's dangerous and that he really pretty much stays away from the internet and if he does start to read something about himself he;ll be like, "No. Don't want to know," and back away quickly. He said he has a sister who is "Miss Internet" and she'll start trying to tell him stuff, like, "D'you know that..." and he'll be like, "No. Don't tell me. I don't wanna know!" He did say someone has registered his domain name and he's heard that you can reclaim your domain name and he is starting to think maybe he should do that and that he used to look down on people who blogged but now he's thinking a blog mightn't be such a bad idea..

They were asked about playing practical jokes and what the best ones every played on them were and they thought about it and Joe pretty much said he really hadn't been the victim of very many practical jokes and Jason told him it was because he was the lead guy and people probably didn't dare. Joe said he thought it was a shame as he has a good sense of humour and finds practical jokes funny but he did admit that if someone did play a prank on him he would totally retaliate and escalate things and e.g. fill someone's trailer with water or something and that he would always have to go one better and probably end up escalating things to a level of behaviour that would possibly be considered disturbed!

Jason said he'd loved to have really pranked David and put saran wrap (cling film, for us Brits) over the toilet bowl in his trailer so that when he went the loo it sprayed everywhere etc but that he knew David would have just blown up completely if he did!

Joe and Jason mentioned earlier (when talking about the mooning incident) that they regularly "horrified" David and in fact had a lot of fun generally horrifying their cast mates!

That's about all I can remember for now - and I really must go to bed and get some sleep! I'll see if I can remember more from the stage talk later...
