20.020, while a very interesting class, turns out to not include any bench work. All the biological design we do is theoretical, and everything we actually work with will be non-biological. E.g. the first day we did a paper airplane design exercise for team-building, and tomorrow we're going to take apart tape recorders. For the record, as trivial ( Read more... )

Oh, the "labs" in your typical science classes are not much like the bench work I'm talking about. Let's learn a bunch of procedures that we probably won't ever use again in our lives, and struggle with stupid old apparatus, all in a pathetic attempt to illustrate the concepts we've been learning and apply the scientific method to stuff that's been known for decades at least!

No, I'm talking about science science. But *grin* I know what you mean.
