Sounds {A Belle Series Ficlet}

So this is a little ficlet that I came up with last night.  It goes ahead of the oneshot I'm writing right now.  This is after Belle receives cochlear implants, though when she does is established in the coming oneshot.  I'm no where near finished with that though, and so there's gonna be a wait.  I did some research on the cochlear implants and I know that music can be heard, but not with full clarity.  Still though, she'd be able to hear it.  Anyhow...

As always, I don't own Ten, Donna, or Doctor Who.  The BBC does.  Please read and enjoy...

There were several sounds that Belle grew to love, as she adjusted to the cochlear implants.  The first sounds she heard were the voices of Donna and the Doctor, though they were garbled at first.  As she grew to fine tune the sounds more, they were clearer.

She heard music for the first time in years (she had heard it before the illness robbed her of sight and sound, though it was a distant memory), and she was fascinated with the sounds of string instruments.  Percussion still made her jump, but it wasn’t a scared jump so much as a thrill like one would achieve on an amusement park ride.  She found herself comparing music from Earth and music from Gallifrey, but really developed no preference.

By the time she had had the implants working for a few months, she’d developed favorite sounds.  The sounds of the TARDIS humming to her while she sat on her bed with her books, the sound of Donna humming softly while she went about things when they weren’t travelling.  The sound of Wilf talking about the stars, his telescope, and aliens.  The sound of Sylvia in the kitchen explaining a particular recipe to Donna who wanted to try it on her own.

But her absolute favorite sound of all was the sound of the Doctor’s voice in the evenings before she went to bed, as he read to her from the multitude of books he had from Gallifrey, or when he simply told her stories of his childhood when he played in a meadow covered in soft red grass, with trees that sang, under two suns, and an orange sky.  Sometimes he would place his fingers on her temples, she would feel faint touches in her mind, and she would swear she saw these things.  And together with the soft cadence of his voice, they were beautiful.
