So I've finally decided to try something a little different to get myself writing again. I've started a second story. The hope here is that with two to write I will want to jump between them instead of taking long breaks and that I will want each one to kind of cruise along.

I usually have more than one longer story on the go, though that's more usually a *lack* of inspiration than too much of it. I tend to use short stories for when creativity hits and to change the pace, but I have novel-focused friends who may have 2 or 3 on the go at once. If you prefer the pacing of novels then having two different genres to swap between has to be a good thing.
I'm also with you on plenty of outlining as I like to have an idea of where I'm trying to take something before the characters start having their own say. ;)
I'm reluctant to use too many viewpoint characters as I know I tend to get confused as a reader by too much swapping of heads. I know people who've managed up to 10, but I think keeping it smaller stops your readers having to work too hard. Sounds like a good solid setting for Armour X with plenty of freedom to go in whatever direction moves you. Good job.
