That must feel pretty strange after all those months where she wouldn't take anything BUT the breast! I know it's a sad or at least poignant moment for many mums but it must be especially so for you given how completely she relied on you for nourishment. What a year it's been for you! You must feel emotionally exhausted. If you do, make sure that you acknowledge that to yourself and be kind to yourself. And that is the start and finish of me being bossy :)

Most Americans and Canadians think so, I suppose, since a quick cursory search online indicates less than 15% of Americans breastfeed past 6 months and fewer than 10% of Canadians make it past 1 year.

WHO and American Academy of Pediatrics both recommend breastfeeding exclusively for 1 year, or longer, as mutually desired by mother and infant.
