... and this also made me laugh, because I was telling my friend Carrie last Saturday that I was taking down my Christmas tree that afternoon because I felt like the last person in the world with a Christmas tree still up. Carrie said, "Don't worry. I guarantee you people in New Jersey (where she used to live) still have trees up!"
Wow! Do people really take down their trees that early? That's going to be my next poll, I think!
We went up to Boston for 3 days last weekend (chaperoning some students), and we were at Quincy Market/Faneuil Hall Marketplace and it was January 7th and they were taking down the tree!
The three of us (New Jersey) teachers looked up and lamented: "What!? Why are they taking down the tree already!? So soon!? Oh, the poor tree!" as we watched and shook at our heads disparagingly as they took the electric saw to the tree. I guess Bostonians thought we were totally strange!
I think around here, most people have it up for at least a month after Christmas.
My parents take theirs down the week after Christmas, if not within the first few days after Christmas. I wanted to keep mine up longer, but I didn't know anyone else who still had a tree and the needles had gotten really brittle - I put it up the day after Thanksgiving.
I love having Georgia help on those rare occasions where I cook dinner (Grant does most of our cooking and he lets her help out quite a bit). I'd bake more often, but it's too stressful for her to "help" when I'm trying to be precise and there is no such think as her not helping when it's time to bake.
Nevertheless, it's always a fantastic idea to get kids active in the kitchen!
this is wonderful.. she is great! i want one! hee.
my mum specialises in language development in kids, and i've shared some of your Erika anecdotes because she remembers me sending the purple clothes to you. She says Erika is very advanced - you've definitely got a very intelligent child! Not only that, but her personality is lovely too, and she's so pretty - you must be so proud :) You and Brian made a good one!
Wow, I take down my tree Jan 1 and it seems that most outdoor decorations are packed away around the same time over here!! The malls are well into valentine's now, LOL.
My older one loves too cook too. He has since he was Erika's age! You should get her a kiddie knife. It has a large handle and is like a piece of corrugated sheet metal. You use it with a chopping motion (not sawing). Sharp enough to cut fruits and veggies, but not to cut little fingers. I'll see if I can find a link for you.
