So I posted about the stranger who said "UNBELIEVABLE!" with a wry smile while shaking his head as I walked past at Kohl's two days ago (see here: http://aliki.livejournal.com/458043.html), and yesterday, another incident happened! Perhaps unrelated or perhaps another clue to the mystery! (This ( Read more... )

Do you often get mistaken for being much younger than you actually are?

Well, I think I do look younger than 30, but certainly old enough to be of child-bearing age!!

They certainly dont say it in a snarky way, and it's not very frequent, but it does happen occasionally. For example, when a club I advise won the state championships, a news reporter came to do an interview and told us all to wear our team sweatshirts (including advisor). When the reporter showed up to the room, with all the students and me, she looked around and said "and where's your advisor?"

Why did I capitalize it?! I guess I always visualize it that way. Oops!

I used to get comments like that but because people assumed that a white woman with an asian kid HAD to have adopted the baby - I was always tempted to pull down my pants and show people my c/s scar when people asked where I got her.

I never realized people expect babies to come out looking like carbon copies of their parent!

I think she looks Asian, especially her dark hair and almond-shaped eyes. Her skin tone is pale like the Irish, though, and completely different than my olive-tone complexion.

My Chinese mother always comments "she looks so White!" when she sees her, and points out all her "white-looking" features.

Then when Brian's Irish mother sees her, she always comments "she looks just like her mother!" and point out all her "asian-looking" features.

I think she's a good mix and people see what they want to see in her.

LOL! I'm also going to need a secondary sign on her stroller that says "I am a GIRL", as her blue seat seems to be throwing people into automatic "what a handsome boy!" mode. When I got it, I thought it was fairly androgynous but clearly not.
