"People hate [evolution] out of ignorance of what evolution is, but more than that, out of ignorance of what religion really is."

I knew a kid in high school who's dad used to say "I never scene a monkey turn into a man so evolution can't exist." Maybe stupid, maybe ignorrant, definately ridiculus.

Ignore the editorial review. I doubt he's as familiar with Ken as I am. I have like 13 of his books.

My favorite quote on that today was from the NPR report on the Kansas debate between evolution and intelligent design. One woman being interviewed said, "this is not a debate of science vs. religion. It's a debate of science vs. science." Right.....

great quote!

if only people (all people, not just the conservative/religious) didn't feel so threatened by any and everything, this world would be a much better place!

Errmm... quoter was one of the students in my graduate ecology and evolution program at Rutgers. Not sure who said it, but it was one of us.

We were discussing God and religion, and how a surprising number of graduate students, in the ecology and evolution program, nevertheless, believed in God. I think it came out to 1 athiest, 5 attended Church regularly, 10 that considered themselves religious but did not attend regularly, and 5 or so agnostics that believed in a higher power but not necessarily organized religion.

We ended up talking about how programs like ours get a bad rap from the conservatives and particularly religious conservatives, mainly out of misunderstanding of the use of science in today's world and the applications of science to our everyday lives.
