If we want to embrace an open and undiluted meaning of freedom to live

I think you might be confusing the libertarian idea of individual freedom with hedonism. Libertarians also strongly advocate the rule of law in society; being free to live your life as you see fit, so long as it doesn't infringe upon someone else's rights (specifically the right to life and property, not perceived rights like a job or health care.)

Sen. Obama told the students that "our individual salvation depends on collective salvation."

Main Entry: fas·cism
Pronunciation: \ˈfa-ˌshi-zəm also ˈfa-ˌsi-\
Function: noun
Etymology: Italian fascismo, from fascio bundle, fasces, group, from Latin fascis bundle & fasces fasces
Date: 1921
1often capitalized : a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition

"Barack Obama will require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism. . . . That you push yourselves to be better."

Arbeit macht frei.

This is a very dangerous road we're headed down. What I'm trying to figure out is if Obama will be the dictatorial-type figurehead or if he's just a tool. Either way, he's dangerous. I can't wait to get my "anyone but Obama" bumper sticker once the douchebag is elected. *snort*

I'd like to read the book "Liberal Fascism" by Jonah Goldberg. I've always wondered why Fascism has been passed off as a right-wing ideology.
