Is this meant ironically, or have they actually told you they'll change requirements halfway through? It would certainly make for a more realistic scenario.

They've told us they will. It sounds like a 6.170 tradition that's supposed to weed out the anti-abstractionists; some people have had to rewrite their whole project and others just added a few lines.
