Part IV:
He breathed slowly and bit his lips as his bare feet pressed into the floor. He walked on shaky, unstable legs, arms out to either side, balancing himself. He stumbled, but caught himself on a chair back. He rested for a moment before continuing across the room.
He was nearly exhausted when he made it to the opposite side, sitting down heavily at the desk. He leaned forward and rested his head on crossed arms on the table, nearly drifting to sleep.
“So that’s why me rum’s been dissapearin’ rather quickly, lately.”
He jerked his head up at the voice; unaware Jack had come into the cabin. He blinked groggily and rubbed his eyes.
“Sorry… Didn’t mean ta scare ye, mate…” Jack strolled over to him, taking a seat next to him.
He sat up straight, watching him.
“What?” Jack asked, shrugging, “Ye act like I’m ‘bout ta pounce on ye, or somethin’.”
He relaxed, slightly.
“How long ‘ave ye been walking?” Jack asked, softly.
His eyes flickered towards the table.
“”S good… means ye’re getting some o’ yer strength back.” Jack nodded. “Won’t be long now and I’ll be havin’ ta scale the mast ta find ye.”
He smiled slightly.
“Maybe someday I’ll even get ta see ye smile… honestly.”
His brows furrowed, and his eyes seemed to change.
Jack smiled back softly. He gave a slightly shrug, “Just a thought, mate.”
He bit his lip, fingers toying with the edge of the desk, tracing along the carved wood. He waited for a few more moments before he gripped it hard, and pushed himself to his feet.
Jack stood, and extended his hand, but didn’t take his arm. He waited, and watched.
He slowly walked back to the bed, swaying as he did. He came down heavily and pulled the covers over himself, bundling up as though he were cold.

A slow smile slid across Jack’s lips. He looked around out of habit and stepped into the small shop.

He looked up as the cabin door opened.
“Ah, good, ye’re awake.”
He tilted his head to the side.
Jack sashayed into the room, as he always did. He set a case of something, which he assumed was more rum, onto the floor by the desk and then walked to the bed, with a small brown pouch in one hand. He sat down on the side of the bed.
“I found this today, while I were in town… And since ye couldn’ come wif us…” He opened the pouch and lifted out a small box. He laid it his hand, “It’s fer ye, mate…”
He tilted his head to the side, but opened it slowly. His eyes widened when he realized what it was. He looked back up at Jack.
Jack grinned, “I’ll take it I guessed right, then… Ye like chocolate?”
He nodded. He sniffed experimentally, before taking a small bite. He grinned, almost inanely.
“Ye like chocolate covered cherries, mate?”
He didn’t answer. He was too busy savoring the taste.
“The color made me think of yer eyes.”
He looked up.
Jack shrugged slightly, “Rich brown… dark chocolate…”
He licked his lip slowly. He chewed slowly, thoughtfully, and set the empty box aside. He leaned back in bed.
“Ye’ve been walkin’ around the cabin again, ‘aven’t ye, while I’ve been gone?”
He nodded.
“Ye look exhausted, again.”
He nodded, again, twice.
“Go back ta sleep, then… ye still need yer rest.” Jack told him, standing. He started to walk away, but stopped. He turned back, and saw him looking up at him. His brow furrowed, “What is it, mate?”
He opened his mouth slightly, licking his lips, before closing them again. He looked down, at the blankets, and his toying hands in his lap. He drew in a deep breath and looked Jack in the eye.
“Andrew…” He said softly, “My name is Andrew.”
