It's a nice number with a lot of divisors? It's significant in that it's a multiple of 10, which is your current preferred mathematical base, and 12 and 60, which you use for times. There are 300 seconds in five minutes, you know. And the Alberaxians had a three hundred day year (although they added an extra few days or hours every so often to stop their calendar from getting out of sync).

This all seemed like a good reason to celebrate! :D
