Seriously, just *what* is he gonna do? It's not like he can take Preston and Bonnie with him, right? Because I'm sure Dylan wouldn't want to leave either one of them behind. Or his family.

Then again, if it's down to living or dying...

When brainstorming with a friend last night, we came up with the idea that Dylan actually does take Preston and Bonnie with him, and Xan lets him because of a combination of I Want My Beloved to Be Happy and guilt.

Of course, things don't go smoothly once they're on Zimara because then there would be no real interpersonal conflict. So Bonnie get sick with something and has to return to Earth, causing her to (probably) break up with Dylan because long distance. And Preston is possibly a rare Actual Straight Dude(tm) major character in this version and possibly falls in love with Xan's sister, Ayli. His motivation for going to Zimara if he's not in love with Dylan would essentially be "hey, space vacation!" If Preston/Ayli happens, Preston and Dylan might end up as literal bros lol.

I would have Preston be in love with Dylan, only if Xan, Bonnie and Preston (plus any other Zimarans) love him, that might getting into Marty Stu territory, even for a sexy novel. Unless it's done well? But I like the idea of Preston and Ayli bonding. I

lol you're talking to the person who created Jazz. Three male cast members fall in love with him at some point throughout the novels -- Savin, Mitchel, and Ravi. So I'm not exactly the best person to be asking about that. xD Jazz and Savin are both borderline Marty Stus, but they're also proof you can pull that off. ;)

I like Preston as being straight, though. And the idea of him and Ayli getting along. It'll certainly be interesting to see which parts of the old and new versions stay and which ones go. :)

Preston and Ayli would have what I think is a cute Portmanteau Couple Name (Presli), which is, of course, a super solid reason to hook them up. ;)

Yeah, I don't really think of Jazz and Savin as traditional Marty Stus, so it is possible to pull that sort of thing off. I still do like the idea that Preston is straight, though, so we'll just have to see what happens. The idea that Preston and Ayli hook up like just came to me last night, so who knows what other plot and character developments await? lol

I, too, am looking forward to seeing what stays the same and what changes in the new version. It's already different, yet it's also oddly the same in places, as things from the very first version have reappeared (the botanical garden assassination attempt and need to leave Earth to preserve Dylan's life).
