Bonfire Night Double Haiku

Black and biting night
Gunpowder thick in the air
New stars bright and brief

Northern lights shimmer
across condensation on
my window and fade

poetry, haiku

Loved it! Especially this part:

"tumbling from the library
among the bikes and cars
it's like a fairgound tonight
she says

split by the fireworks
she shoulders it
she's soldiering on..."

Fairgrounds and fireworks - a very good connection there. Both fill up your senses with lights and those particular colours and so many noises that are never quite the same each time you hear them. And the smells. I could smell the gunpowder as soon as I step outdoors and I'm stuffed up with cold at the moment - and it isn't a proper fair without candyfloss on the breeze.
