I am amazed at the number of posts on LJ that feature cats in one form or another. Why is that?

Um. Cats have this remarkable ability to be cute whilst lording it over us. They mostly have us wrapped around their paw. My two certainly do. The posts are a recognition, and a self-delusional denial of that basic fact.

Surely a cat who belonged to a fishwife would be quite fat??

Probably expected to hunt for its dinner to keep the rodentia down, and maybe given a few scraps now and again.
