Early in transition I had abuse hurled at me by builders working at Durham Jobcentre. I turned around, went back in and reported them then and there to the front desk staff. The next day when I went back, there were no builders, because the contractor had been told to remove their crew from the site as they were banned from it for the way in which they acted. Local government and the civil service can be good at protecting their public image for not tolerating any kind of *phobic abuse.
