Silmarils are a Girl's Best Friend

Okay, so at long last I am finally actually sitting down and reading The Silmarillion. I was going to re-read Lost Tales, but didn't. (Wow, useless sentence). So really I just finished the Valaquenta, and while I had a good idea about all of it before, I actually didn't know that the first vision of the Ainur wasn't Eä. Like I knew about the ( Read more... )

That's cool! You're reading it?

When I first started reading it I was supprised, because I got the impression from others that it was incredibly difficult. The only hard part is remembering all of the characters. I know them all by heart now...

I love learning about the valar! I love Aule and Yavanna together. They're like Fred and Ethel on I Lve Lucy or Something... ;)

I always thought Melkor was interesting too. He is always fun to read about!
So Melkor is like a little geek. He was rejected by Varda who hooked up with his brother, so is now spreading evil and dissension throughout the world.
Haha! That's a good summary! ;D

Yeah, I'm finally getting around to it. :) I was expecting it to be really difficult too, from all that I had heard about it. It might be because I pretty much know all of it already, but I'm not finding it that hard. The only hard part is, yeah, the characters. The House of Finwë is a killer: It took me a while to get it down (Finrod and Fingon always screwed me up) but I do finally have them memorized.

I loved the bit with Aule and Yavanna! It was nice to see the interaction, and they def come across as your typical old married couple.

If I remember correctly, the only place we see the actual words of Fëanor's Oath is in The Lays of Beleriand, and I've already read that bit. I can't wait to get the Flight of the Noldor, more specifically the Kinslaying and the burning of the ships. I've read a bit of dialogue between Fëanor and Maedhras at Losgar, and I can't wait to read all of it. Hmm, *goes off to read*
