Irresistible Poison

Well here it is, three in the morning, and I just finished reading Irresistible Poison by Rhysenn. I read, um, let's see, chapters 2 through 15 in one go, and it only took me, hm, let's think, 14 hours to do it (minus meal times and a little interlude around 10:30 to 12:00 when I watched Elektra with René), so okay maybe only 11 and a half hours ( Read more... )

I'm not sure I liked it as much on the recent re-read as I did when I first read it, when it was about the third HP fanfic I'd ever read, and the first explicitly slashy one. But that might have been because I know all the surprises now, although it's possible that it's because some of the language *is* a little flowery for my taste.

But the scene, um, where there is a change (not to spoil it for people who haven't read it) -- that's just killer, isn't it??!?!! I remember being swamped with Emotion the first time I read it. Oh, and the version I originally read stopped at chap. 14, so I thought that was the end (she had that note about it being 14 chapters total), so for months I thought it ended there. Finding chap. 15 was like a special surprise gift.

I'm not sure that I liked it so much that I would re-read it, unless yeah, I read it earlier on. The one thing I noticed that I didn't really like because it was kinda corny is that she waxed poetic about their eyes every time she mentioned them. Like, "Draco's eyes of slate grey" and stuff like that.

Yeah, that scene is pretty emotional. It's written wonderfully, and it's a great idea, it just eliciting some major sympathy for Harry. Yeah, she's got notices for chapter 15 all over them...now.

I was just thinking about it the other night, and the one thing I realized is that, even though I lurve my slash, the only thing Harry and Draco do is kiss. And it doesn't matter in the slightest. I guess it just fits the story, because I wasn't finding the need for anything more. I think it's just a mark of the writing quality, that the whole relationship can be portrayed that strongly yet not have the need for any sex or anything. I don't know, I found that interesting.
