Trip went well enough, except the part where we didn't get to see Roman ruins due to some idiot deciding to change the final destination mid-trip. ( Mini-rant here. )
Oh, yes, totally! I want to see Roman ruins with anyone! And, I mean, I'm one of those totally weird people who touch or almost-touch ancient pieces of rock and sighs over them, so, you know... I promise I won't bore you either!
It's about 100 km away? Or thereabout. The advantage of living in the middle of the country is that you can usually reach the nearest castles in a couple of hours.
The statue guy is John Hunyadi. in fact, the Hunedoara castle is also known as Hunyad Castle. (And those wiki articles are pretty accurate; I checked.)
Yes, it's that part where Transylvanian history is part of Hungarian and Austrian history, by virtue of the territory having once belonged to them. And Matthias Corvinus is this huge historical figure, so you know... there's some hint of national pride left there. Anyway, trip to Transylvania should be fairly easy if you're already in Budapest, because you know, the border is fairly close. There are still check points, but if we ever do meet the requirements for the Schengen Agreement then those will go away as well.
Sarmizegetusa is a lovely place, if you ask me. The one thing that kept me from giving this bitch a piece of my mind is the fact my aunt has to work with her. But urgh it was hard! I wanted to see the ruins again!
