So, after all the cleaning and cooking and more cleaning followed by more cooking, we can all finally rest. Presents and devouring of chocolate bunnies shall have to wait until I'm more awake, I'm afraid.

Happy Orthodox Easter, everyone!

And guess who had to get up at unholy 5:30 am and go to the nearest Church to get sanctified bread dipped in ( Read more... )

Happy Easter :) I think this is the furthest Catholic and Orthodox Easters have been apart in my memory!

Indeed, it is. My cheesecake came out very nice and fluffy this year, so... yeah. ^^;;;

Usually a whole month is the furthest, yes. Doesn't happen often, usually it's a one or two week difference, and every 4 years or so it's the same date. But anyway, to my knowledge the difference has something to do with the moon cycle and Pesach and weird computations of the Russian Orthodox. Though my topic for thought this year is why regular people don't seem to realize separate Easter means Jesus died... twice. Symbolic date or not, it's just wrong.

It's even more than a month this year - ours was on March 23 :) And yes, it's rather paranoid. But then we have separate Christmases, too.

Actually, we do not. That would be the Old Rite Orthodox Church, with their out-of-date calendar. (Mind-spinning, much?)

Woo!

What was the bread like? Did it taste more special than regular bread?

Nah, it tasted just like regular bread soaked in (poor quality) wine. It's just this... tradition thing.

So you didn't feel, like, divinely touched when feasting upon the bread?
Bummer.

No, I felt far too sleepy to do more than go fetch it, eat a bit, then promptly go back to bed. But then again, I'm agnostic so... yeah.

On the other hand, if the bread had been soaked in a nice, quality wine... I could have said a couple of swearwords directed towards those wasting said wine. It would have significantly brightened my day. XD

Edit: Erm... make that vegetarian drob, and... do you eat eggs and dairy products at all? if not, I have fruit salad. :)

I know. Stupid Orthodox Church insisting we need to calculate time for Easter like the Old Rite Orthodox do, while Christmas is calculated the way Catholics do. *grumble hiss*

But hey, we get spring holiday! Yay! *offers cheesecake*
