At least three years ago MINI knew it's power steering pumps were failing in 2002-2005 models. I don't know about you, but I think steering failure is a major safety issue. I feel your pain. Toyota treated me very badly over failure of their sliding door cable failures. You can read my saga at my Tumblr page: http://tackdriver56.tumblr.com/, about 2/3 of the way down, 3 entries. And my home grown cable replacement is still working just fine, with the "failed, non-covered motor" still in place. I HATE the auto industry.
