I went to see a theatrical adaptation of the Iliad today, and guys. I can't even begin to describe it. It was so. Unbelievably. Good. Even though it was a major downer, I could not stop smiling. The acting was great and the fight choreography was fantastic and it was just incredibly well written. Their interpretation of a lot of characters

And, um. Iphigenia/Achilles/Patroclus: great love triangle or greatest love triangle?
Fuck yeah! And off topic, but for some reason Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides is one of my favorite classic books, she and poor Orestes are so dramatically fucked up :D

OH MY GOD, I LOVE IPHIGENIA IN TAURIS. I didn't think anyone else did! I think it's tied with the Oresteia for my favorite Greek classic. Iphigenia and Orestes... God, what a pair. And poor Pylades, caught up in all the madness. I would absolutely lose it if I ever got the chance to see it performed live.

Fiddler on the Roof on the roof is one of my all-time favorite movies. I wish I knew more about the actual history and culture involved. I find it slightly embarrassing that in all the years I've considered it one of my favorite movies, I've never bothered to research its basis.

I can't believe it took me so long to see Fiddler. I finally understand what all the fuss is about! The songs have been stuck in my head for two days. The historical and cultural aspects of the movie (so... most of the movie? XD) were kind of a mixed bag for me. On one hand I absolutely loved being able to identify with the cultural and religious aspects that are so rarely depicted in pop culture. On the other hand, I cringe to think that Judaism was (and still is) used as an excuse to be close-minded and ignorant. And the way they veered away from Hebrew and Yiddish phrases was really distracting. But but but! I really liked the movie! Now I'll need to see it live!
