Y'know, I think Rilla's my favorite Anne book too. It's the one I've read the most often, because of Walter, and Jims, and Rilla being less of a Mary Sue than Anne. She has faults, and Rilla of Ingleside just seems like a more serious book than the other Anne books. Darker like the Emily books.
I think Aly's my least-favorite Pierce heroine. She's too perfect, including the dyeing her hair blue. She's just so AWESOME, OMG, that it kinda bothers me. It's still a toss-up between Alanna and Kel for me, depending on what mood I'm in and how nostalgic I'm feeling. Though Tris grew on me a lot too, if only because, of all the heroines, I am Tris, right down to being shorter, plumper, and having a bitch of a temper. And the hair. *g*
oh, Rilla my Rilla. It makes my heart happy to know im not the only one who loves her best.
i think i like Aly BECAUSE she is so obviously awesome, as goofy as that sounds. i like her because she feels like a teenager. Your mom is all powerful magical sword woman? MUST DYE HAIR BLUE AND ROLL EYES. i love Alanna and Kel and everybody else (sidenote: my library just got in Beka Cooper: Bloodhound. MUST GO PICK UP), just as I love Aly. I like the Circle of Magic books, too, although less. I love the characters more then i love the books. And The Will of the Empress was awesome in places and then i had to bang my head on the table when it seemed like the ONLY idea the bad guys had was to kidnap Sandry. What? it didnt work? KIDNAP HER AGAIN!
Pierce's earlier books seem better to me. Someone once said that her writing was less polished, but more adventurous, and I miss that adventure. I miss the randomness and the excitement of it.
Bloodhound is pretty frickin cool. I like Beka. And yes, I think I do like the characters more than the Circle of Magic books themselves, because they seem the most developed and flawed. Even though I hate Sandry. HATE.
Rilla has always been my favorite of the books. I liked the simple sweetness of their relationship & the book is what made me interested to actually really learn that part of history (the first WW). "Rilla, my Rilla?" *sigh*
Oh my gosh we are like the same person. Or at least, we have the same taste in books. Or at least, we have similar taste in books. Miles Vorkosigan is my HERO, and he is HILARIOUS, and Memory is so my favorite book. And also the Trickster books are my favorite too! And okay, so Rilla isn't my favorite book because I love Anne too much (but really only in the first book, when I want her to get together with Gilbert so badly; after they get together they're not nearly as interesting), but Anne deserves love nonetheless.
Oh, and Bones is also love. (That last episode was SO MUCH CRACK. And all the more amazing for it.)
And I think that you should watch Leverage. (On TNT.) Because it is currently my favorite show, and since we have so much similar taste, there is a chance you will like it too. It's about thieves who are no longer thieves but steal from the rich and give to the poor. (Also invest carefully and make lots of money themselves.) It is HILARIOUS.
Sorry, I've been offline lately, but I'm trying to catch up on important posts and what is more important than BOOKS, especially when they involve Tamora Pierce and L.M. Montgomery!
To be honest, I can't remember Rilla that much, but I read it when I was about eight, so it's been a while. And of course you'd pick the only Pierce series I haven't read (other than the one about the four kids that wasn't set in Tortall, I'm strangely attached to Tortall and I could only get through the first book of the other series). My favourite series of hers is actually the Wild Magic series, since that was my introduction to her writing (and fantasy as a genre!). And Numair is AWESOME, and older than Daine and it hits my kinks so hard. *_*
I've been planning on getting around to the Trickster books for a while now, so I'll try and make that sooner rather than later.
i understand the issue of getting buried under real life. as that is where i am spending too much time myself.
but yes, BOOKS!
Rilla is wonderful, and you should reread.
Pierce-wise, Im also attatched to Tortall. the Beka Cooper series is also shaping up as pure awesome. two are out, and three is being written. no idea if it's a trilogy or longer. give Trickster a try and let me know what you think.
