The only other thing I'd like to see in this optimistic!possible ending is a visit from the grandparents :)

Very cool fic!

Thank you! I think I'll write a visit from gramps and grams eventually.

I don't know if the "Mommy nearly got shot" story would calm most kids down! Other than that, though, I love this -- and it's very much the way I see Sydney's future and life. And I have no doubt Jack makes his way down to Australia for visits, once in a while. :)

That didn't occur to me, though it's a fairly good point. I used it because it really worked to show that what was originally a lie to cover up shitness has become a sort of fairytale, but I see how it could be slightly alarming. Isabella's probably smart enough not to take mummy seriously, though ;)

Meh. My favourite story as a kid was about a mermaid who lost her voice, got turned into foam, and died, so I'm not sure I could judge on the subject. I'm glad you like the rest of the fic!

Aww, I hope it turns out this nice. Although, since Syd was pretty flipped out to hear about her mom being a spy at all, let alone all the nasty things that happened to her mama in the line of duty, I would think she'd... keep the near-death stories for a later age. Or, at least, a later hour.

See above comment about Syd and story-ness. The story was the same as the cover story she gave Diane, about her work at the bank, not as a spy. Besides, I think Izzy wouldn't believe mummy anyway.

I'm glad you like it!
