Fimbulvetr (I think!) is the period preceding Ragnarok in Norse myth.

Love this! I tear up my own not-so-good Ragnarok attempt forthwith. I especially like the idea that Laura (and later Jack) give Sydney myths instead of fairy tales.

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. I figured Jack wouldn't be the sort for any kind of fictional childhood story, but Laura the lit professor--sure, why not?

Oh, that was amazing. Especially since Sydney's parents would have read her myths, instead of simple fairy tales. Beautifully done.

Very cool.
When Sydney is young, her father teaches her to construct a .22. They own shotguns, AK-47s, and assault rifles, too, but Jack prefers to start small and work upwards. Hee.

Fantastic! I (like everyone else before me :D) love Irina and Jack exposing Syd to myths rather than fairy tales -- it says so much about that entire family dynamic -- and this is just such a concisely beautiful piece. So effective in so few words; wonderful work!
