This is great! Chess is the ideal scenario for Jack -- quality time with Sydney without the necessity of conversation.

I wonder -- how did Sloane find out about that chess game?

Sloane's omniscient, isn't he? :) Or maybe he bugs Sydney's desk. Or maybe Jack, in an unfamiliar rush of excitement, had to share the news with his former best bud.
