Lens assembly is fucked. Most likely from dropping or related physical abuse. The little motors and pulleys and such that normally move the lenses about to focus (and if you have a lense that protrudes from the body, the motors that push it out there) are no longer aligned as they should be and cannot function.
This is the death my Canon died, only Canon calls it E18. Either way, it needs surgery, and if it's not on warranty, that surgery will likely be as expensive as a new camera. If it is on warranty, you might have to argue with them to convince them that it just died on its own, because this sort of problem very much tends to come from physical abuse, which is not really the sort of thing a warranty covers.

it's the same problem that happened to it while it was still under waranty years ago but i bought it when they first started coming out so yeah that's a no
although this time it's telling me to consult to users manual which it didn't before. i think it's just fucked and i've been wanting a new camera anyway
