Nyuk nyuk. Erm, four (due to the awesomeness of black-blue-red-green clicky pens), and probably still four. I did try using the ten-colour clicky pens for a bit, but they're more gimmicky and rather less effective at actually being pens.
I can still remember the colour coding I generally used, too. Theorems, lemmas, section headings and the like were black; proofs were green; examples were red; and blue was for... something like general discussion not in the above three categories, I guess.

Alex, how many colours were your lecture notes in? How many would they be in if you were doing the degree now?
