Natalia watched as Frank continued to provide CPR to Olivia while Krista checked for any kind of pulse, but by her disheartened expression, there was little to none. She heard something along the lines of ‘her pulse is weakening... her heart is stopping...’ and the only thing that she could coherently think was God, don’t take her away from me, please.
“What is that ridiculous beeping sound?” Krista asked as she turned her head to the purse away from Olivia beside the file folder. She strained to reach the purse, opened it and started to search through it to find the object of her exasperation. She pulled out a cellphone and that was not what was beeping. She knitted her brow as she placed it back inside and pulled out another small device that she recognized. Her eyes widened and she looked back down at Olivia.
“Krista,” Marina called out as she knelt down beside Krista with the defibrillator in hand. She looked at the young woman and saw shock written all over her face. “Krista, wake up!” Krista jumped and turned to her, looking at the defibrillator beside her. She rubbed her eyes across the heel of her free hand, trying to focus.
“Move Olivia’s shirt,” Krista instructed as she placed the device into her sling. She watched as Marina and Frank switched places while she prepared the defibrillator. She pulled out the electrodes and looked at Olivia, noticing the small scar over her chest. “Jesus Christ, what happened to you, Liv?” Krista muttered as she pressed the electrodes at their needed places on Olivia’s body before she had everyone move out of the way. “Clear!” she called out as she pressed for the charge. She watched as Olivia’s body contracted during the charge and immediately checked for a pulse. “Dear God, thank you - where is the damn ambulance?”
“Ambulance is right here, what happened to Oliv- Krista, what are you doing here?” Natalia and Krista looked up at the EMTs and found Remy and his colleague trying to get into the small hallway with their stretcher.
“My being here isn’t important, Remy; Olivia needs to get to Cedars now,” Krista stated as she stood up and moved off to the side, allowing Remy and his colleague to move Olivia onto the lowered stretcher.
“Okay, what happened?” Remy asked as he and his colleague lifted the stretcher to a reasonable height. Krista followed the EMTs back to their ambulance ready to explain what had happened a few minutes ago.
“You’re not going anywhere without me,” Marina announced as she followed Krista out of the room.
“Olivia saw me and passed out, her pacemaker started to go off right before she collapsed,” Krista’s voice trailed off as she left with Marina and the EMTs, leaving Frank, Natalia and Mallet outside of the cell.
What just happened? Natalia stared dumbfounded at the door where the four disappeared through. Why did Marina let Krista out of her cell if she was considered a criminal? Why did they let Krista use the defibrillator and how did she know how to use it? Why did Remy know Krista? Why did Krista walk out of the precinct like a regular citizen who was not even incarcerated just moments ago? Why did it look like Krista recognized the pacemaker? What was going on? Who are you, Krista? Natalia was at a loss for words as she swam in the waters of her questioning mind.
“Natalia, are you okay?” Mallet’s voice pulled her out of her reverie and she looked up at the two men in front of her.
“I-I have to get to Cedars,” Natalia stated as she shakily took to her feet with the help of Mallet and Frank. She reached down and grabbed Olivia’s purse, but she also retrieved the folder that fell right beside it. As she stood up, she moved the cover away and read over the file, questioning what rattled Olivia. She read the victims filed in the report, but though she recognized them she doubted that Olivia would be so surprised. She flipped the page and read the assailant’s name, but failed to be familiar with it. She read the assailant’s name to the letter and her eyes opened wide. W-What? Krista Olivia Logan Tolentino is her whole name? Olivia? What?
“Natalia, are you sure you’re okay?” Frank asked when he started to see Natalia’s face pale in colour and her hands begin to shake. He watched as the other woman looked up at him and he was taken aback by the look in her eyes. He turned to Mallet and watched as he reached for the folder in Natalia’s hands, but Natalia pulled the folder away. Frank looked back at Natalia and flinched when he was sure he saw a flurry of hard emotions sweep over her eyes. He saw the frustration, he saw the confusion, he saw the sadness, and he was sure he saw the anger.
“Krista Olivia Logan Tolentino; who is she and why do you all know her?” Natalia sternly asked, looking between the two detectives. She saw Frank attempt to retrieve the folder from her, but she swiftly moved it from his reach. “Just tell me who she is.” Both men looked at each other and they were both at a loss of words. Frank took a deep breath and decided that Natalia had to know the truth because evidently Olivia seemed to have forgotten to tell her about someone who was really important in her life.
“Krista Olivia Logan Tolentino is a doctor from Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles; she transferred to Cedars Hospital recently,” Natalia motioned for him to continue on, “And she’s Olivia’s half-sister.”
