Fandom: Guiding Light
Pairing: Olivia/Natalia et OC/female that is yet to be mentioned
Rating: PG
Spoilers: None. Completely none. Mentions Olivia's trip to San Francisco, but other than that none in mentioned... so far... I hope.
Disclaimer: Well, no, Olivia and Natalia and anyone who originates from Springfield Township belong to Telenext Media, Proctor and Gamble, and CBS; I'm just borrowing them. However, I do own the character Krista and only Krista.
Author's Note: This is my first Otalia fanfiction story and my first Guiding Light fanfiction too, so I may trail off with their personalities, but I've tried to remain as close as I can be. This story is heavily AU and it will get involved a lot of angst, so angst-lovers rejoice, but for others... bear with me and enjoy. I made Frank tolerable, just so you know. Also, I wrote this chapter about five times and decided to take the last one and post it. Hopefully it's good enough, but that's for you to all decide. Here we go, chapter 1.

Olivia, you have to - no need to come down to the station now. Don’t ask why, please come down here or I will find you myself and get you down here, that was all that went through Olivia’s mind during the ride to the station. She spared a sidelong glance at Natalia and watched her drive before she stared back out the window. They were supposed to have a quiet evening together, dinner and a movie while Rafe had Emma at the Beacon for the night, but that all changed when phones incessantly rang and Olivia was forced to take the call. She insisted that she go to the station alone, but Natalia countered saying she paled during the call with Frank and she did not want to risk anything happening to her. Olivia wanted to argue, but something inside of her said no and let Natalia do what she wanted to do, so here they were on the road to the Springfield Police Department.

Olivia shut her eyes as she replayed Frank’s words through her mind. She heard something in his voice that caught her attention and she had no idea of how to define that tone and it bothered her. She started to run through what the tinge was in Frank’s voice, but nothing seemed to fit or sound plausible for that matter. She wanted to know why Frank needed her to be at the station; she doubted she committed any crimes recently that she had forgotten, but this was Springfield, anything seemed possible. The keyword during their short call was need, there was something important at the station and she had to be there immediately. Frank gave her no other incentive to go or any other valid reason, but something inside of her told her to go.

I-I have to get to the station, Frank needs me there, Natalia had no idea how to take that statement. She saw the conflicted look in Olivia’s eyes when those words left her lips and the first thing that came to her mind was that Olivia could not go there alone followed by the question, why? When she offered to drive, she was not going to let Olivia argue with her. She spared her own sidelong glance to Olivia and saw her eyes shut, completely preoccupied in her world of questions. She, too, was lost in her own sea of questions, but she could not let it affect her or their drive would be placed into jeopardy.

When they arrived at the station, Natalia parked the car in a free spot and tapped Olivia on the shoulder, watching the other woman jump in her seat. Despite the lack of light present in the car, Natalia could see the anxiety in Olivia’s eyes and it was especially present on her face. She could see Olivia begin to grow nervous with every passing second and all she could do was offer a sympathetic smile before she took Olivia’s hands into her own.

“Come on, Frank’s waiting,” she whispered, watching as Olivia briefly nodded and faintly smile back at her. They exited the car and made their way inside the building. Olivia had no idea of what to expect and neither did Natalia because everything seemed calm as of late, nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary, but this was Springfield... Springfield could barely be calm for more than a day.

They walked through the hallways and made it to the front desk. Asking for Frank was practically unneeded since he, Mallet and Marina stood not too far from the desk. All of them looked dismayed and it started to stir Olivia’s mind and emotions. Something must have happened and it was related to her. Did it have to do with her past? Was it related to when she left for San Francisco or came back? Was her family endangered? What was going on?

“Hey, you called me in?” Olivia asked as she pulled on the best smile she could, but the three detectives gave off a depressive vibe and it scared her. Natalia felt the vibe as well and knew something critical had happened. Frank, Mallet and Marina pursed their lips and simultaneously walked over to them. Every step they took, Olivia could feel her heart beat faster and harder in her chest. She tried to remain calm, but the other three made it less than easy to do.

“Why is she here, did she do something?” Natalia questioned as she wanted to know the answer to why Olivia was called in.

“It’s not her that did anything,” Frank answered as he looked down to the floor before he looked back at Olivia. He watched as the other woman turned away and knew some kind of sarcasm would arise.

“If it ain’t me, then who is it because I didn’t do anything that I remember,” Olivia nervously chuckled as her eyes caught the folder in Frank’s hands. She scratched the back of her neck and wished that she could leave. She watched as the folder was handed to her. She eyed the thin yellow folder that probably had the answer to all of her current questions. She looked up at Frank and saw the passive look on his face before she warily looked at the folder once again. She raised her hands and Frank dropped the folder into her hands.

“Olivia, you need to breathe,” Natalia’s voice caught Olivia off guard; the older woman stopped breathing as the folder touched her hands. Natalia placed her hand on Olivia’s shoulder, offering as much support as she could when she saw the colour start to drain from the other woman’s face. She turned to look at the three detectives and dared to look straight into their eyes. All three had their attention attached to Olivia and all of them seemed to convey the same emotions in their eyes; frustration, sadness and concern. Their eyes flickered between Olivia and the folder that was now in her hands, but their passive looks remained unwavering.

“Olivia, you need to open the folder,” Frank quietly said as he saw the hesitation in Olivia’s body. There went the keyword Olivia pointed out from earlier: need. Something about the folder made her sick to her stomach, but she had no reason why.

“Okay, okay, I’m opening it,” Olivia smirked, but she was scared of what she inside. Whatever was inside had three poised detectives rattled and that unnerved her. She took a final deep breath before she opened the front cover. She let her eyes wander the first page before she bothered to process the actual words on the page.

Victim: Alan Spaulding; uh huh, that’s smart, hurting a Spaulding of all people, Olivia inwardly smirked at the concept of a lowly stranger offending Alan. Victim: Doris Wolfe; oh that’s even better, you hurt the mayor, whoever did what they did was probably the most stupid person Olivia could think of. Victim: Kevin Benjamin, Victim: Paul Flint... hmm, Doris’ security detail was also involved, but as the victims? Can’t be a surprise if Frank managed to take them down, right? Olivia raised her eyebrows and started to look at the charges. Battery for Alan Spaulding, battery for Doris Wolfe and assault on the security, interesting; that must’ve been a joyride for whoever did this.

“Okay, I really don’t know why I’m reading this,” Olivia stated as she looked up at Frank, who motioned for her to continue to read. She rolled her eyes and sighed as she turned the page and began to read for the assailant. Assailant- oh, my god, no! Olivia felt her entire body numb when she read the assailant’s name. She read through the file once again, making sure that it was not a trick of her eyes, but that name was there printed clear as day.

“Olivia, I need you to breathe,” Natalia’s voice broke through Olivia’s haze of thoughts. She placed her hand on Olivia’s back and concern wrote itself all over her face. Olivia looked as white as a ghost; her face had little to no colour left, her hands started to shake and sweat started to appear across her brow.

“K-Krista?” was the only thing that slipped through Olivia’s lips. She looked up at Frank and saw him nod in reply. Natalia furrowed her brow, who was Krista, but before she could even ask that question, Marina spoke.

“She’s in the back cell.” Olivia was gone; she took off for the back cell of the station with the folder tight in her grasp.

“Olivia, wait!” Mallet called out as he and the three others took off after the other woman.

Olivia could not believe her eyes or her ears at that moment. There was no way Krista was back, there was no way, but with every heavy step she took to the back, something told her that it was the truth. She wanted this entire moment to be a lie, a sick twisted lie, because if this was true, she had no idea how she would react.

She stepped into the back of the station and she realized that her mad dash to the back slowed to a shuffle. Her heart started to ring relentlessly in her ears, but it felt like her blood was pounding against her ear drums. She knew at any point that her pacemaker would go off, but she could care less because she needed to know the truth. Her footsteps started to float against the concrete floor and as she turned the corner for the cells, she only found one occupied.

Oh, my god... Olivia felt her heart skip a beat when she saw a battered woman inside the cell. Her clothes were torn, her dark long hair pulled up in an unkempt ponytail, a dressing over her forehead, stitches on her lower lip and eyebrow, bruises littered her face and whatever exposed skin was visible, and she had a black sling on with her left arm inside with a purple cast. This person- this woman in front of her could not be thatwoman. She reached out to the bars of the cell and lightly laid her hands against them as she tried to get closer. She hoped that whoever was inside was a lie, that all of this was a trick.

Tears started to numbly run down her face, she heard voices and footsteps enter the back room, but they did not matter. She opened her mouth to garner the woman’s attention, since she sat with her head against the wall with her eyes closed, but the other voices gained that attention. Time seemed to slow for Olivia when she saw the closed eyes open. She gripped the metal bars with white knuckles since those eyelids could not open fast enough, but when those eyes did open, Olivia froze in her spot. Those familiar soft liquid grey eyes looked back at her and that was the last thing Olivia saw before her entire world dimmed in front of her, but the last thought in her mind was damning that persistent beeping sound.
