looks like we caught the lily in time. we brought the boy home today and have to give him fluids via a drip bag and a needle in his shoulderblade skin (yoiks) and put some drops in his mouth twice a day, but it looks like he's fine. he's pretty spry, and bean was happy to see him. the nurses gushed about how good and sweet he was, and we have to ( Read more... )

So glad he is okay. I used to have to give Hamlet fluids and I offer you my secret, taught to me by the vet's assistant. Don't restrain the kitty at all. Kitties do not feel pain when you stick them there but hate being restrained. Go up to the cat, pet the cat, stick the needle and just keep petting. You can also do it really easily while he eats. If you restrain, it is traumatic, if you just stick and sit and pet, letting the cat be free, it is super easy.

aw, thanks! yeah, the vet told us we could try doing a towel wrap if he really freaked out, but we actually *did* it at the vet, and he didn't even flinch. i was amazed! thanks for the tip, we'll be very chill about it. We've been watching Jackson Galaxy some more, and he emphasizes that cats reflect your energy, and we keep seeing obvious examples on that show. it sure happened when we started trying to get griffin in the cat carrier... everything was fine until we got panicky and i was probably raising my voice when i was trying to call him. he flipped and hid, and he never does that when it's just me and don at home, only with strangers.

griff is just so squirmy even when we're cuddling, i'm imagining him jumping off my back with the needle in! lol.

We totally learned the trick the hard way. We would towel wrap and Matty and Hammie would cry and scream and then, we had the conversation with the tech and everything was really easy after that. I am glad that it is working out so well for you.
