Doctors:Thank you so much for all your well-wishes! I really treasure all your comments, but currently I can't comment back as I am trying to spend as less time at the PC as possible, trying to sort out my back

I wish there was some sort of balance to the healthcare system. I'm from the US and there are still a lot of problems with insurance. Right now they are even trying to get contraception to be not covered by insurance. If so women would have to pay out of pocket and it would be totally unaffordable for most women.
I'm unfamiliar with the NHS. Do they not think that women have jobs and I don't know....a life? Geez, I can't believe they won't let you make appointments!
The NHS wo't let you make an appointment? Wtf? That's utterly insane. Though as att123 says, US insurance-based healthcare has plenty of problems, too. It seems that wherever you are, it's configured to suit everyone but the patient. *sigh* Still, despite everything, I'm glad you basically got a clean bill of health.
, without any guarantee of getting an appointment, especially an appointment to the doctor you like. You can't ring on Monday and get an appointment for Wednesday, and why not - I have no idea. What??? Okay, here I thought that at least this is something one can take for granted. I feel a bit naive at the moment.
Good luck with the health issues - I have been sloppy on LJ of late, so didn't know.
As for the NHS, I have a friend who has this horrible doctor in her area - unbelievably patronizing just like yours. But the system in the US (which I have lived in) is just so much worse - you have more choice but the cost! And that's even with good health insurance. As for Ireland, well, sometimes the least said, the better. The local consultant told my dad that he only operated to fix shoulders of people under 30, because apparently everyone else doesn't need theirs...
Our national health care system isn't much better these days which is why I'm happy that I get health care at the private sector through my job. I still have to pay specialists like gyne from my own purse unless I go through the doctor designated to us first. She's pretty good though. I haven't used NHC since I started working and I'm mighty glad I don't have to. No waiting and I can book consultations through internet.
