Apparently American publishers thought "philosopher" in the title might put people off. D: D: D: Ugh, have more faith in children.

Lololololololol. This sounds so odd! but on this line of thinking - how can something like "Midnight Riot" attract the readers?

They probably think it sounds more exciting... Ugh. I have not heard of Rivers of London but it sounds quite good so I've added it to my Amazon wishlist, thanks!

I actually noticed Rivers of London in Amazon bestseller lists (I check those lists, I am sad this way) and I thought: a book that is not Twilight-looking at the top of the fantasy list? YAY! I hope you like it too!

The Vorkosigan Saga is completely brilliant. I loved those books to pieces and you still have a lot to look forward to in the Miles books. Great stuff. I only discovered the series a year ago or so and was really blown away.

Also I am currently reading Rivers of London. I'm only through the first fifty pages or so, but I really do adore the writing style.

I have read some of Vorkosigan Saga ages ago, in Russian translation, but I have always wanted to go back and do a re-read.

I LOVE MILES. Love love love him.

I thought "Rivers of London" to be just delicious, I had some of the heavy-going RL stuff going whilst I was listening to it, but it cheered me up to no end.

You might try Bujold's Chalion books (if you haven't already read them) after you finish the Vorkosigan saga.

I'm so excited that LMB is going to be one of the GOHs in next summer's Finncon!

I am SO JELAOUS. LMB is definitely in the top 10 writers I want to meat. She just strikes me as such a brilliant woman - it must have been so hard to find her way in the 80s sci-fi scene, it is such a male dominated field.

Oh boy, that actor is very pretty. Has he done any TV work?

He was apparently in Holby City and Sirens (none of the shows I watch). he has one of those voices you want to hear more of.. :D I would welcome him on my small screen.

Now you mention it, I think I saw the ep of Sirens he was in. I only watched the show at all because Richard Madden was in it, liked the Asian character, but couldn't stand the main character (whingey git, basically) so quit. But Richard Madden's character was gay and the guy in the pic was either someone he paid for sex or someone he picked up in a bar (I forget).

I am right there with you when it comes to Rivers of London. I acquired the ebooks last summer and fortunately they were the British ebooks, so none of the slang had been edited out and the title was intact. I love them a lot - hilarious, witty, with a wonderful main character (so refreshing to have such a fab PoC narrator).

However, I decided I wanted to give RoL & MoS to a friend for his birthday and have the paper copies for myself (so the author would get some compensation for his fun books) but I didn't want to buy the American editions with the British slang edited out and the title changed. So I spent the extra money to buy 2 copies of both hardcovers from the UK just to have the "real thing." It was worth it for the beautiful covers alone. And besides, Rivers of London is what the first book is about - I agree completely that the Midnight Riot title is utterly meaningless - and the US cover art is awful. I love both books and I cannot WAIT until the 3rd book comes.
